"I painted 'The Time to Listen' for my son. At first it was so he could have a lasting memory of the time we spent together when I was a volunteer umpire for his baseball league. However, half-way through the painting I had the opportunity to see it in a new way. I realized that as parents we make all the rules and as self-appointed umpires in life we enforce all the rules. Rarely do we let our children have a voice, and that is what parenting is really all about... helping our children to find their own voice"
