The Art of Dave Barnhouse
In this beautiful image
by on of America's favorite artists we witness a warm
episode in small town
life. The
local farmer
on his Oliver tractor has donated time and equipment for
the annual Salvation Army sponsored holiday hayride. On this
chilly evening the wagon has stopped at The Salvation Army
building on Main Street for a cup of hot chocolate. After
a brief rest they will continue their ride, laughing and
shouting, through the snowy streets, creating fond memories
for the watching adults. This nostalgic painting reminds
us that young people are the precious resource of an entire
community, and that The Salvation Army is "on guard" not
only in times of crisis, but also in the quieter moments
of everyday life." Dave Barnhouse recreates the best of times in his definition of rural and small town America. His portraits are glimpses of life the way he remembers it from his childhood. Barnhouse is a self-described "country boy" from Richmond, Ohio who grew up in small towns and connects physically and emotionally with those environments. Barnhouse's work captures the Americana genre, as he works with illumination and adds a nostalgic touch to give viewers the feeling they are actually present and part of the painting." |
